    Metroparks Hosts Bike Safety and Helmet Giveaway Event May 20 on the Greenway Trail

                               
Jefferson, OH. Ashtabula County Metroparks and its Bike Patrol will conduct “Get Ready To Ride”, a bicycle safety and helmet giveaway to as part of Bike Safety Week on Sunday, May 20, 2018, from 1:30 – 4:30pm at the Western Reserve Greenway Lampson Road Staging Area, 2550 Lampson Road, Austinburg Township.  The event is one of several being held by Metroparks in conjunction with the Ohio Chapter of the American Association of Pediatrics.

What’s Happening:
The Ashtabula County Metroparks bicycle safety and helmet giveaway event will be anchored with a special bicycle safety and training with different stations featuring experts whom will help and teach participants with minor bike maintenance and getting bikes road-ready (tire pressure, brake and seat adjustments, etc.), rationale and proper fitting of safety helmets, proper operation of bicycles, avoidance of obstacles with a small obstacle course,  as well as supervised and guided test-rides on the Western Reserve Greenway.  Greenway trail maps will be provided by Ashtabula County Metroparks.  The event is led by Bike Patrol President Mary Neary and other Bike Patrol members, as well as Metroparks staff and volunteers.  Helmets will be given away to all participating children, while supplies last.

“Metroparks and Ashtabula County are so grateful for the grant of 140 children’s bicycle helmets from the American Association of Pediatricians as part of their “Put a Lid on it” Bike Safety program”, noted Larry Frimerman, Executive Director of Ashtabula County Metroparks.

Metroparks’ event is being done in coordination with, and in honor of National Bike Safety Week, and Bike Safety Month.  Stay tuned for additional bike safety and helmet giveaway events throughout the summer!

In addition to the volunteer Bike Patrol providing Greenway safety and security, Ashtabula County Metroparks is hiring rangers to provide peak and off-hour uniformed security along the 27.5 mile Western Reserve Greenway and all of Ashtabula County’s Metroparks!   Ashtabula County Metroparks is committed to providing safe, clean, and accessible parks and quality outdoor park experiences.
